Githmi clinches Under 14 girls’ singles title

107th Colombo Championships

Ave Maria Convent player Githmi Fernando clinched the Under 14 girls’ singles title of the 107th Colombo Championships at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts on Monday.

In the final between the top two seeds of the age category, Fernando beat number one seed Gehansa Metnadi 6-3, 6-1.

She beat Lihini Jayakody in the quarter-final (5-3, 5-3) before overcoming Venuli Jayasinghe (6-3, 6-3) in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Hasali Gajaba and Saneshi Willoraarachchi beat Nesangi Hemakumara and Vishmi Serasinghe 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 in the women’s doubles semi-finals.

In the other semi-final Savini Jayasuriya and Janali Manamperi beat Tania Doloswala and Nelani Jayasuriya 6-1, 6-0.

In a men’s doubles semi-final played yesterday Ashen Silva and Srinath Udayachandran beat Hesara Kuruppu and Anujan Abeywickrama 6-1, 6-1.
