Girls’ team advance to Junior Billie Jean King Cup tournament  

Sri Lanka girls’ team qualified for the Junior Billie Jean King Cup tournament as they won their semi-final at the pre-qualifying tournament continued at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts on Friday.
While the hosts’ boys’ team lost their semi-final of the Junior Davis Cup qualifying event held at the same venue, girls cruised to 2-1 victory over Turkmenistan to secure a place in the final and qualify for the tournament proper.
In the first girls’ singles, Dinara de Silva beat Meyriam Mijahammedova 6-2, 7-5, before teaming up with Inuki Jayaweera to win the doubles event. In the second singles match, the latter lost 6-2, 6-2 to Aisha Bikabulatova. In the semi-final of the boys’ Junior Davis Cup qualifying tournament Indonesia disappointed Sri Lanka by securing a 2-1 victory.
Methwan Wijemanne was the sole winner for Sri Lanka in the boys’ semi-final yesterday.
