Girl found dead in guesthouse; fiance questioned

Police have questioned the boyfriend of a girl, who was found hanging in a room at a guesthouse on the Panawala-Rakwana road.

Police said that the couple had booked into the guesthouse on Tuesday (04) at about 1 pm. The suspect left around about 4 pm to bring some food, leaving the 22-year-old girl alone. When he returned, the door had been locked and he immediately informed the guesthouse manageress and on her advice he had entered the room through a window.

The manageress has sought an explanation from the boy why he failed to open the locked door. The boy has claimed that when he entered, he found the girl lying on the floor, near the bed, and she appeared to have fainted.

The girl was rushed to the Kahawatte Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

When Rakwana police questioned the suspect, he claimed that she had hanged herself during his absence.

Investigations revealed they had visited the same guesthouse before and were to get married soon with the blessings of their parents.
