Gift of Dual Revelations
By Lynn Ockersz
In the glowing eyes of children,
Cuddling school bags lavished on them,
By those reaching to the ‘Other Half’,
Are two contrasting narratives,
That are there for the unraveling;
One speaks of a wistful yearning,
For a bright new future of learning,
Now that some tools of knowledge,
Are at hand in one handy bag,
The other tells of recurring agony,
In neglected, benighted peripheries,
Where schools being over-run by jungles,
Is now no longer out of the ordinary,
And bereft of the essentials of living,
The child is given to dependencies.
