Gen. Mahesh Senanayake inducted into Intl Hall of Fame at Fort Leavenworth

Former Army Commander, General Mahesh Senanayake (Rtd) has been inducted into the United States Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) International Hall of Fame at Fort Leavenworth on Nov 16.

An alumnus of CGSC, he has been conferred this honour in recognition of his “outstanding military leadership for the nation and commitment to preserving global peace. “

The induction ceremony was held last week without any physical participation of the award winners due to Covid restrictions. His certificate and memorabilia would be sent to the US Embassy in Colombo for collection.

Talking to Sunday Island over the phone from Dubai where he currently lives, Senanayake said: “As a Sri Lankan, I am delighted by this honour……. and am humbly proud of taking the name of my country into this prestigious hall of fame.”

A product of Ananda College, Colombo, Senanayake joined the Army on October 16, 1981 as an Officer Cadet, became Army Commander on June 28, 2017 and retired on August 19, 2019. He now lives in Dubai and works as a Consultant-Advisor to National Airlines, USA.
