GCC Red’s Mihela, Aken, and Tathsilu shine as hosts begin with a win

Mihela Minthaka, Aken Dias and Tathsilu Methum excelled for GCC Red’s as the hosts commenced with a win in the Global Cricket Club GCC Junior Championship tournament continued with 28 of the scheduled 32 matches completed despite rains.

GCC Reds 208/2 beat AS Academy 141/10 by 67 runs

Tournament hosts GCC’s Red team began their tournament campaign on a superb note comfortably beating AS Academy. Opener Mihela Minthaka (77 runs), skipper Aken Dias (61 not out), and Thisaga Perera (32 not out) scored the bulk of the runs for GCC-Reds, while Rageeth Kumara (44) and Pawan Sadamina (36) scored for AS.

Tathsilu Methum of GCC Reds was the pick of the bowlers taking four wickets. Mihela Minthaka was adjudged the Player of the Match.

NP Academy 256/7 beat SR Academy 113/10 by 143 runs

A fine double of 60 runs and five wickets for 19 runs by Savein Wijewardhane powered NP Academy to victory.

Supeshala Chandrasiri (62), Rugith Nimjaya (56 not out), and skipper Hirun Sandira (31), also contributed. For SR Academy, Mathisha Pramod picked up two wickets and contributed with 33 runs. NP’s Ujith Hettiarachchi also picked up two wickets. Savein Wijewardhane was the Player of the Match.

Colombo Premier 65/0 beat SSC-B 64/10 by 10 wickets

A second consecutive Player of the Match performance by Miyuru Bandara (28 runs not out and 3 wickets for 13 runs), combined with 33 not out by Methuka Gunaratne and fine bowling figures of four for nine runs by Janith Rukman helped CPCF register an easy victory. Only Manula Nimsara (20) of SSC-B offered any real resistance. Charith Hansana picked up twp wickets for CPCF.

CR Academy 122/3 beat GCC Blue 121/9 by 7 wickets

A half-century by GCC Blue’s Hiruka Himsara could not prevent his side from losing to CR Academy. Binupa Perera (3 wickets for 9 runs) and Sachin Nethsara (3 wickets for 20 runs) were the main wreckers with the ball. Githma Imadith (48) and Binupa Perera (20) then made sure that AS reached their target comfortably. Binupa Perera was adjudged the Player of the Match

A further 16 matches were also concluded during the fourth week and the tournament has reached the stage where teams are beginning to study the points table with interest.

SCC Academy 327 for 2 beat RI Academy 33 for 9, by 294 runs

Highest score of the tournament so far, 197 runs not out off just 87 balls was scored by Chethina Kavinda, and 73 runs from Thenuja Silva, saw SCC post a mammoth 327 runs in 27 overs. When RI batted, Hesitha Sandul took three wickets for just one run, while Deneth Perera took two for no runs, Sadew Baghya took two for eight and Anudala Fernando took one for one run. Chethina Kavinda was adjudged the Player of the Match.
