Gateway wins International Schools Basketball Championship

Having won the Under 19 Basketball championship a few weeks ago, Gateway College emerged champions in the Under 17 Inter International Schools Basketball tournament too by beating Belvoir College International 32-23 at the final. Gateway Girls too fared well by securing the third place in Under 19 and by being the runner-up in Under 17age groups.

Gateway’s Under 17 Boys Captain Sharo Perera was outstanding during the entire tournament and was recognized as the Most Valuable Player while Rometh Perera was named as The Best Defensive Player. From the Girls team, Sachini Samarasekara was named as The Best Offensive Player.

The efforts of the Head Coach, Tharindu Fernando and Assistant Coach, S. Selvarajah, especially in building skills of the players during the pandemic contributed much towards these achievements.
