Ganuka scores consolation win

Ganuka Fernando scored a consolation win for the Sri Lanka boys’ team as Iran and Jordan qualified for the final qualifying rounds at their expense in the fourteen and Under ITF World Junior Asia/Oceania qualifying round continued at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts on Friday.

Iran and Jordan qualified for the next round to be held in Match in Thailand as they won their respective semi-finals. Ganuka scored the solitary win for Sri Lanka in their matches against Iran. Fernando beat Radin Fahimi 6-3, 6-3.

While Lithum Jayabandu suffered a 2-6, 1-6 defeat at the hands of Iran’s Mani Kardan, the hosts’ doubles pair conceded a straight-set defeat in their match. Radin Fahimi and Mani Kardan registered 6-1, 6-3 win over Fernando and Basith Carder.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka girls’ team, who have remained unbeaten to qualify for the next round in Thailand will meet Nepal today to decide the top team in the girls’ category.
