FUTA Chief talks tough ignoring govt. ultimatum

Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) Chairman, Dr. Shyam Banneheka told journalists yesterday that even if the government declared education an essential service, it would not be able to have answer scripts evaluated.
The FUTA Chief said that his Association would make a final decision on paper marking soon.
“We would support the President’s move if he also takes steps to ensure that all children have access to quality education,” he said.
Dr. Banneheka said the children of many University teachers have also sat the GCE AL exam.
“We have decided not to take part in marking answer scripts due to several reasons, including unfair taxation,” he said.The University lecturers had made several demands to the government.
