The Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) will hold a demonstration in Colombo today against the Indian government’s suppression of farmers who are protesting the privatization of their land.

Education Secretary of the FSP Pubudu Jayagoda said that Indian government was planning to sell farmer lands to Ambani and Adani companies. Indian farmers have surrounded Delhi and the government had killed scores of them, he said.

Jayagoda said: “There is no MCC agreement here but the Gotabaya Rajapaksa administration has agreed to amend three laws. Once these are amended, Sri Lankan farmers will face the same fate as their Indian counterparts. We have to show solidarity with Indian farmers today because it will be our fate tomorrow.”

He said that a company that Indian farmers are protesting against, Adani, is also going to take the ownership of East Container Terminal (ECT.)

“This is a company that is driving millions of Indian farmers into poverty. Imagine what they will do to us.”
