Mirage: Big drawcard in Seychelles

WasThe Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa, nestled on Silhouette Island, the third-largest island in the Seychelles archipelago, has turned out to be an in place for entertainment since the band Mirage moved into action early last month…on December 6th.

They are featured at the Lo Brizon Bar at the Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa.

The original plan was for the band to do Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve in Mahe, the main island of Seychelles, but the management wanted the band to continue doing their thing at The Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa.

Says Benjy: “We did the Christmas day lunch scene, at the hotel, and 31st night was an open-air evening event, near the beach. It was simply fantastic.”

Benjy described the crowd patronising the Lo Brizon Bar as a mixture of African, Chinese, French and the local people from other islands of Seychelles.

He went on to say that they have adjusted their repertoire to take in some local songs, and African songs, as well, adding that their female singer, Dhanushka Uyanahewa, does ‘Malaika,’ the iconic African love song.

In fact, according to reports coming my way, guests love Dhanushka’s style, and her ability to communicate with the audience.

The hotel management was keen to extend the band’s stay, till end January, 2024, but leader Donald had to decline the offer as the members need to get back to Colombo in order to prepare themselves for their trip to Australia.

The lineup to Australia will include singer Manilal Perera, replacing Dhanushka Uyanahewa.

Already two important gigs have been lined up for Mirage, says Trevine Rodrigo, who resides in Melbourne.

“The first being Bertie Ekanaike’s Valentine’s Day ball, followed by a debut luncheon organised by Chris and Annie Cannon and their famous Thai Street Food at a new venue in Bentleigh.

“The Valentine’s Day ball will be held at the Grand on Princes and will also feature Replay 6 and Esric Jackson, with Noeline Honter as an added attraction.”

Trevine mentioned that the Thai Street Foods luncheon will be a two-part party…yes, for Mirage leader Donald’s birthday celebration, and Thai Street Food’s maiden venture at catering.

The four-hour event will feature Mirage and popular Melbourne country band, No Limit with Esric Jackson.

Yes, it’s an interesting scene, indeed, for Mirage…from Seychelles to Australia.
