Fraudster posing as PM’s aide: CID asked to conduct thorough probe

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena told Parliament yesterday that he had asked the CID to probe an incident where a person who posed as one of his coordinating secretaries and collected money from people proming jobs in Denmark.
Responding to a question raised by Opposition and SJB leader Sajith Premadasa, the Premier said that he had requested the CID to conduct a thorough investigation.
Opposition and SJB leader Premadasa: “I like to draw the attention of the Prime Minister to a very serious allegation. I do not believe that you are involved in this, but there is a person who is posing as a Coordinating Secretary to the Prime Minister’s office collecting money from people by promising jobs in Denmark. He is said to have collected Rs 600,000 each from them. I call on the Prime Minister to investigate this.
Prime Minister Gunawardena: I am thankful to the Opposition Leader for raising this issue. I have no connection to this. None of my coordinating secretaries are involved in this. Nor any official attached to institutions coming under my purview is involved in this racket. The CID is in the process of investigating it.
