Francophonie Film Festival at Alliance Française of Colombo

From 21st to 23rd March 2024 with English subtitles – Free entrance

Francophonie brings together over 321 million French speakers from around the world. The International Francophonie Day is organized every year around the 20th of March to celebrate the diversity of the French language and the French-speaking world. To celebrate Francophonie 2024 in Sri Lanka, the Francophonie Film Festival will take place from 21st to 23rd of March at Alliance Française de Colombo (11 Barnes Place, Colombo 7) and will feature seven films from eight countries around the globe members of the Francophonie: Belgium, Canada, Egypt, France, Romania, Switzerland, Tunisia, Vietnam. All movies will be screened with English subtitles and entrance is free, the French Embassy in Colombo said. A total of seven movies of all genre will be shown, which will illustrate the diversity and richness of Francophonie cultures: from drama to comedy, to documentary, short-movie and animated movie.

The list of movie screening is as follows: 7 PM Thursday 21: The Tailor by Tran Buu Loc, Kay Nguyen (2017 Comedy, Romance from Vietnam), 7 PM Friday 22: Wild Romania By Dan Dinu, Cosmin Dumitrache (2021, Documentary from Romania), 2 PM Saturday 23: The Adventures in the Land of Asha By Sophie Farkas Bolla (2023, Adventure, Drama from Canada), 4 PM Saturday 23: No Dogs or Italians Allowed By Alain Ughetto (2020, Drama from Belgium, France and Switzerland), 6 PM Saturday 23: Under the Fig Trees By Erige Sehiri (2022 Drama from Tunisia), 8 PM Saturday 23: Cairo: Architecture of the soul and mind-The original story (short movies Egypt and Beautiful Minds By Bernard Campan, Alexandre Jollien (2020, Drama from France and Swizerland).
