Fr. Jeewantha granted bail
Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage, yesterday, granted bail to Fr. Jeewantha Peiris, a leader of the anti-government protests. Fr. Peiris surrendered to Court, earlier in the day.The police had charged him with taking part in unlawful protests that damaged the Presidential Secretariat and violating a Court order.
He was released on two sureties of 500,000 rupees each. Fr. Peiris was also banned from leaving the country. He was also ordered to make a statement to the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Division today (13).Representatives of the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Division had earlier asked the court to remand Fr. Peiris.
Fr. Jeewantha Peiris was a prominent figure at the “GotaGoGama” protest. He was represented by President’s Counsel, Rienzie Arsekularatne in court.
