Fowzie re-enters Parliament

A. H. M. Fowzie was yesterday appointed a Member of Parliament, from the Colombo District to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of SJB Colombo District MP M. M. Rahuman, who is the SJB’s mayoral candidate for the Colombo Municipal Council.

The announcement of Fowzie’s appointment was made via an extraordinary gazette notification yesterday.

Last week, Rahuman informed Parliament that he was resigning as an MP to contest the local council polls.

Former Minister Fowzie secured 48,701 votes from the Colombo District, representing the SJB at the last general election.

Fowzie is 85 years old.
