Four youth from Kalmunai drown at Ella Waterfall

Four youth from the Ampara District, all in their early 20s, drowned at Ella Waterfall, Wellawaya, yesterday morning, while bathing there. A group of 10 youth visited the waterfall while they were on a trip.

The victims were identified as A. Anas, M.M.M. Nowfees, M.L.M. Zuhry and A.M. Afzal from villages around Kalmunai.

Ella Waterfall is a death trap for local and foreign tourists and many have died at the foot of this waterfall, drowning. We have a Pradeshiya Saba, a Divisional Secretariat and a separate Ministry for Disaster Management but no safety measures have been taken to safeguard the lives of tourists visiting here.
