Four road fatalities on Tuesday involving motorcycles

Four persons were killed in traffic accidents at several places on Tuesday, police headquarters sources said yesterday.

One person died in an accident at Mahawa around 4.20 pm. The deceased (24) was a resident of Mahawa. The motorcycle he was riding collided with a three-wheeler at Kettapahuwa Boruwewa junction on the Padeniya-Anurdhapura road. The injured was rushed to the Mahawa Hospital but he was pronounced dead on admission. The Mahawa Police are conducting further investigations.

A 65-year-old was killed in an accident at Pandulagama in Anuradhapura on Tuesday evening.

The victim was a resident of the area. His bicycle collided with a motorcycle at Pandulagama on the Anuradhapura-Puttalam road. Both riders received injuries. The cyclist succumbed to his injuries at the Anuradhapura Hospital, police said.

The Anuradhapura police are conducting further investigations.

A female motorcycle rider died after an accident at Moragahahena in Pannipitiya around 7 pm on Tuesday. She had been travelling from Moraghahahena to Pitipana North at the time of the mishap.

Witnesses told police that the rider had lost control of her motorcycle, which veered off the road.

She was rushed to the Kalubowila hospital but was declared dead on admission. The victim (23) was a resident of Kiriwaththuduwa. Further investigations are being conducted by the Homagama police.  

 A 56-year-old man was killed in an accident at Mirihana around 10.15 pm on the same day. He was riding a motorcycle from Pannipitiya to Maharagama when the accident took place. Police said he had lost control of his motorcycle, which crashed into a jeep near the Seventh Milepost on the Nugegoda-Maharagama road, witnesses told Police. The rider was rushed to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital but was pronounced dead on admission.

Police took into custody the driver of the jeep.  Further investigations are being carried out by the Mirihana Police.
