Formidable Blue Eagles meet Colombo FC

Formidable Blue Eagles will encounter Colombo FC in the Vantage FFSL President’s Cup Invitational tournament final at the Sugthadasa Stadium today.

After maintaining an unbeaten record Blue Eagles will be the slight favourites against Colombo FC. Both teams reached the final after closely contested semi-finals where the winners were decided on penalties after regular time ended with goals tied.

Blue Eagles edged out Java Lane in the semis after recording a comprehensive 3-0 win against New Star SC. Their impressive league stage performances also included a 2-0 victory against today’s finalists Colombo FC.

The team captained by Lakmal Gunasinghe also registered wins against Crystal Palace FC (2-1) and SLTB SC (3-1).

Colombo FC captained by B.M.C.B. Rathnayake overcame Red Star in the semi finals after beating Police FC 3-0 in the quarter-final. Their only disappointment in the league stage was against Blue Eagles.

Their other wins in the group stage were against SLTB SC (3-0) and Crystal Palace (4-1).
