Former President expected back from Singapore soon
By Rathindra Kuruwita
Former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was expected to return to the country from Singapore in the near future, Cabinet Spokesman Bandula Gunawardena said yesterday. Addressing the post-Cabinet Press Conference in Colombo, Gunawardena said that Gotabaya Rajapaksa had left for Singapore through formal channels and that it was not accurate to say he was hiding.
Rajapaksa left Sri Lanka in mid-July following massive protests demanding his resignation. Meanwhile, International Truth and Justice Project (ITJP), a rights group, filed a complaint with Singapore’s Attorney General, seeking his arrest for alleged war crimes.
