Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella lodges bail application with Colombo HC

Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, on Friday (15) lodged a bail application with the Colombo High Court, seeking his release from custody, pending further legal proceedings.
Rambukwella’s application says his previous bail requests have been rejected by the Maligakanda Magistrate. He wants the High Court to grant him bail, subject to any necessary conditions.
The Colombo High Court is to consider his plea on March 18. The Maligakanda Magistrate on Thursday (14) refused to grant bail to the former Health Minister, former Health Ministry Secretary and four others pending the case in respect of the procurement of fake human immunoglobulin.
Eight suspects, including Rambukwella, former Health Ministry Secretary Janaka Chandragupta and Additional Secretary Dr. Saman Ratnayake are being held on remand.
The Criminal Investigation Department arrested Rambukwella on February 02. On February 29, Rambukwella filed a Fundamental Rights petition against the CID, seeking compensation.
