The State Minister of Women and Child Affairs Mrs. Geetha Kumarasinghe participating at a press conference at the Presidential Media Centre (PMC) on Friday (25) under the theme ‘Collective Path to a stable country’ emphasized that steps will be taken to provide formal training for pre-school teachers and teaching assistants in order to boost early childhood development.

The minister said  that a pre-school  should be operated under a legal framework and that the pre-school teacher should be a graduate who has received specialized training. “Some preschools have teaching assistants who have sat the regular exam and have experience of working with the head teacher for a long time. Therefore, we are negotiating with the Ministry of Education to provide them with good training as well as a salary. The mind of the teacher should be right. It also helps to increase the development of early childhood” she added
