Food festival… with a difference!
There are lots of novel ways to promote a food festival – ‘Hot and Spicy,’ “Spicy and Nice,’ ‘The Best of Everything,’ ‘Grandma’s Kitchen, etc.
As some would say, ‘novelty is the spice of life,’ I was certainly intrigued when I came across this theme – ‘Gota Go Gama!’
They always keep themselves busy, not only doing things their way, where they now reside, but they also keep checking out the happenings, back in Sri Lanka.
The ‘Gota Go Gama’ food festival became a reality before the big happening, on July 14th, 2022, where Gotabaya Rajapaksa had to finally go home.
Probably, the Sri Lankans, in Melbourne would now work on a food festival and appropriately call it ‘Gota Gone Home.’
I wasn’t told whether the ‘Gota Go Home’ food festival had any special dishes from Gotabaya’s home town of Matara! But, from what the photos indicate, the spread is what we Sri Lankans all love – hoppers, egg hoppers, yellow rice, spicy curries, kothu rotti, etc.
And, Trevine goes on to say:
“The ex-Servicemen’s Club was ablaze with lightning, food stations serving delectable Sri Lanka favourites, such as hoppers, kothu rotti, savoury rice and other delicious curries, and sambols, which gave the mixed crowd, that packed the venue, a taste of authentic Sri Lankan food. The desserts added a night of complete contentment.
“Rounding off an exceptional wet and wintery Melbourne night was the fantastic music, provided by Shehara and George Rodrigo, from the group Redemption.
“They kept the dance floor packed to capacity, at their debut gig, at this particular venue. Indications strongly suggest it will not be their last.
“The success of this venture has already got John Fernando and the Springvale RSL excited and a regular food theme is definitely on the cards.”
Guess Sri Lankans, in Melbourne, must be all excited and awaiting the ‘Gota Gone Home’ food festival!
