The Federation of National Organizations (FNO), in a letter addressed to the MPs who support President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has requested them not to back a post-war initiative launched by the Global Tamil Forum (GTF) and a section of Buddhist monks.

Convenor of the FNO Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekera warned the SLPP parliamentary group of dire consequences if they voted for the establishment of the Commission for Truth, Unity and Reconciliation in Sri Lanka.

A Gazette notification has been published announcing the Act concerning the establishment of the Commission for Truth, Unity and Reconciliation in Sri Lanka.

The FNO has alleged that an attempt was being made to facilitate the entry of Tamil Diaspora for post-war devolution talks and to regain an opportunity to engage in negotiations with the government against the backdrop of the eradication of the LTTE’s conventional fighting capacity.

Referring to recent talks between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Tamil political parties representing the Northern and Eastern Provinces, the FNO alleged that the Wickremesinghe-Rajapaksa government was going ahead with moves to fully implement the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.
