Five Tamil Nadu fishermen assaulted at SL-India maritime border

Five Indian fishermen have been assaulted, along the India-Sri Lanka maritime border, on the night of 23 February, the Tamil Nadu Fisheries Association said.

The assaulted fishermen have been taken to Poraiyar Hospital, Tamil Nadu.

The victims are from the Tharangambadi, Mayiladuthurai district.

They say that an unidentified group boarded their boats, assaulted them with iron rods and took away 1,200 kilos of fish in the boat.

Rameswaran Police is conducting further investigations.
