Five nabbed with Rs 123 mn worth of gold from Dubai

Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), yesterday arrested five persons who were attempting to smuggle into the country a stock of gold jewellery worth more than Rs 120 million.
Four women and one man who illegally brought a consignment of jewellery and gold biscuits worth Rs.123 million from Dubai were arrested at the arrival terminal of the BIA.
The suspects arrived from Dubai separately.
Three women and the man arrived on a FlyDubai flight FZ569 at 01.10 in the morning yesterday (27) and the other woman arrived on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-226 from Dubai at 5.25 am.
Residents of Colomb, they were a group of businesspersons who fly frequently.
The Customs officers found six kilos of gold jewellery and biscuits.
The officers of the BIA Airport Customs Narcotics Control Division have detained the group and started further investigations on this matter.
