Five leaving WP test COVID-19 positive
Five persons who were leaving Western Province for other areas had been found COVID-19 positive when rapid antigen tests were conducted on them yesterday, head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19, Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said.
About 376 new COVID-19 cases had been detected by 6 pm yesterday, taking the total number of cases to 35,763.
Random rapid antigen tests are being conducted on the boundaries of the Western Province.
Health officials have been deployed in Nittambuwa, along the Colombo – Kandy road, Salawa Kosgama, along the Avisawella – Colombo Road and Katunayake, along the Colombo – Chilaw Road. All other exit points of the province will be manned by health and police officers.
Tests will be conducted until further notice, to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 into other provinces.
Education officials of the Southern Province decided to close all schools in the province till 23 December 2020 due to the spread of COVID-19
