First Lady opens SLAF’s newly constructed Sky Pet Animal Hospital in Colombo

On the invitation of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, the newly constructed Sky Pet Animal Hospital was opened by the First Lady, Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa at Guwanpura, Colombo 8, on Tuesday.

She was received on arrival by the Commander, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana and members of the Air Force Board of Management.

Mrs. Rajapaksa unveiled the plaque and cut the ribbon to ceremonially open the new animal hospital. She also made the first registration of a pet and thereafter conducted on a tour of the complex, where she was briefed on its facilities and services on offer. She was later presented a memento by the Commander to mark the occasion.

The SLAF Sky Pet Animal Hospital is an in-house facility specially developed to cater to the management of animal resources with special emphasis on canines and felines. The SLAF has a special Air Dog Unit at Katunayake, which deploy ‘Air Dogs’ at locations such as International Airports.

The special services provided by the Sky Pet Animal Hospital ensures continuous care for these specially imported canines trained in the detection of dangerous and narcotic substances at airports. In addition, the public can seek the services of the hospital for their pets at a very concessionary rate.
