Final talks, today, between UNP and SLPP on forming alliance

UNP and SLPP top officials are scheduled to meet in Colombo, today, to consider the possibility of contesting the upcoming local council polls, under a common symbol, UNP General Secretary, Palitha Range Bandara, said.
Bandara said that the representatives of the two parties had met on Sunday (08) in Colombo and tentatively agreed to contest as a single front.
As per the tentative agreement, the two parties would contest together under the elephant symbol for some local government institutions and under the Lotus Bud symbol elsewhere. Besides, the SLPP and UNP candidates could contest under a common symbol for some of the local government institutions.
Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardena, Deputy Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Chairman Vajira Abeywardena, Vice Chairman Sagala Ratnayake, General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara and Ravi Karunanayake represented the UNP at the discussion, where the SLPP was represented by Basil Rajapaksa, General Secretary of the party, Sagara Kariyawasam, MPs Sanjiva Edirimanna, Johnston Fernando, and Mahindananda Aluthgamage participated.
