Female students of the Jaffna University, staying in hostels at Kokuvl, Jaffna, have complained to Kopai police that they suffer sexual harassment at the hands of outsiders.

The students said they had handed over a petition with 312 signatures to the university administration about sexual harassment. However, the university administration had not done anything and thus they had been compelled to lodge a complaint with the police, they said.

“We have been facing harassment for a long time. However, a few days ago two men on a motorcycle arrived and tried to harass some students who were returning after evening lectures. This is what compelled us to lodge a police complaint,” a student said.

The students have also told the university administration that they have lodged a complaint with the Kopai police. Both the university administration and Kopai police have commenced separate investigations.
