Female suspect dies after allegedly jumping from CID fifth floor

A woman detained at the CID for interrogation over a financial fraud amounting to Rs. 60 million allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the Fifth Floor of the CID building early yesterday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Apsara Menike Rajapaksa, 46, a resident of Pannipitiya.
The victim’s body is kept at the Colombo National Hospital morgue.
Police Spokesperson Attorney-at-Law SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the suspect had jumped off the building through a toilet window around 4:00 am.
She had been taken into custody on allegations of committing a fraud amounting to Rs. 60 million by providing false documents as an employee of a private audit firm to a bank.
She is a resident of Pannipitiya.
According to police, the woman was in the custody of the Special Investigation Division 01 of the CID.
It was the first time a woman has committed suicide by jumping from the CID building, police said.
