Eye Hospital receives more donations, govt. assures Rs 110 mn
Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala has assured Rs. 100 mn for the Eye Hospital to procure urgently needed equipment. The assurance was given yesterday (2) at the Eye Hospital after the Health Secy. examined a range of equipment donated by various donors, some based overseas, according to a press release issued by the Health Ministry.
The Ministry said that the equipment that had been received by the Eye Hospital were estimated to be worth about Rs 70 mn while UK-based Resettlement and Renaissance and Alaka and Ananda Foundations of Malaysia donated 5,000 intraocular lenses worth Rs. 30 mn.
According to the Ministry statement, Dr. Mahipala also promised to release Rs 10 mn for urgently required repair and maintenance work at the country’s premier Eye Hospital.
