Expulsion of Prof. Peiris from SLPP challenged in court: Basil among respondents

Rebel SLPP MP Prof. G. L. Peiris has moved the District Court of Colombo against his expulsion from the position of SLPP Chairman.The former External Affairs Minister’s Counsel Romesh de Silva, PC, has challenged the decisions taken at ‘Maha Sabhawa’, on April 22, on the basis the meeting hadn’t been called properly and hence all decisions taken are null and void.

The SLPP announced the appointment of Ven. Prof. Uthurawala Dhammarathana Thera as the new Chairman of the SLPP.Among the respondents were SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, and Basil Rajapaksa.

Prof. Peiris, and a dozen MPs including Dullus Alahapperuma have declared their intention to function as an independent group.The SLPP rebel group is now part of Uththara Lanka Sabhagaya consisting of a significant number of lawmakers. (SF)
