Explosives found in Jaffna

A search operation conducted by the Navy in Kolombuthurei beach, Jaffna recently yielded 28 water gel sticks – a type of commercial explosive.

Personnel attached to the SLNS Welusumana in the Northern Naval Command made the detection during a search carried out in Kolumbuthurai beach.

The explosive had been hidden in a shrub.

It is believed that these explosives were to be used for illegal fishing.
