Executive Officers launch sick-leave campaign over salary anomalies

A two-day sick leave campaign launched by the Government Executive Officers  yesterday brought a number of state services to a standstill.The Joint Committee of Government Executive Officers called for this campaign based on several demands including issues with their salaries.

Executive officers in engineering, health, education, agriculture and several other sectors joined the sick leave campaign.

President of the Joint Committee K.L. Udayasiri said that ad-hoc decisions taken by the government had led to serious salary anomalies in the state sector. They have to be rectified immediately, he said.

Members of the union also held a protest in Colombo. The non-academic staff of universities also withdrew from non-essential services from Thursday. They said that they would withdraw from essential services too from 08 May.
