Excise duties for cars, sin taxes for alcohol, baccy and sweet drinks from Jan

ECONOMYNEXT –The government has published excise taxes imposed from January 01, on alcohol, tobacco, sugar drinks, consumer durables and vehicles in a gazette notice.

Vehicles are taxed based on engine capacity or up to 300 percent in some categories.Washing machines and dishwashers taxed up to 25 percent.

Cigarettes are from 18.20 to 85 rupees a stick.Mineral waters are taxed at 29 rupees a litre, sweet drinks 14 rupees a litre or 34 cents per gram.Petrol is taxed at 72 rupees a litre and diesel 57 rupees a litre.
