Ex-CM indicted in HC on corruption charges

Indictments were served before the Colombo High Court Judge against former Chief Minister of North Central Province S.M. Ranjith over corruption charges for allegedly obtaining Rs. 5,379,629 as fuel allowances during his tenure as the Chief Minister.

He is the brother of former Chief Minister and lawmaker S.M. Chandrasena

The indictments were handed over to the accused before Colombo High Court Judge Mahen Weeraman yesterday (3).

Later, the court ordered the defendant to be released on two sureties of Rs. 1 million each.

The case has been filed by the Bribery Commission under eight indictments including the misappropriation of government funds to the tune of Rs. 5,379,629 as fuel allowances between 2012 and 2014.
