Even with emergency power purchase no uninterrupted supply of electricity
By Shiran Ranasinghe
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) yesterday (24) announced that uninterrupted electricity couldn’t be supplied even with the emergency power purchase of 200 megawatts.
The PUCSL said that the country faced a 500 megawatt shortfall even if all power plants were operational.
That was the reason why it had approved power cuts proposed by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), the PUCSL said.
The PUCSL said that the water levels of the hydro power generation reservoirs were low and the thermal power plants in the country couldn’t generate sufficient electricity to meet the demand even if there was an adequate supply of fuel.
