ESG-KOICA Youth midterm Volunteer Programme in Sri Lanka
ESG-KOICA Youth midterm Volunteer Programme commenced in Sri Lanka on Nov 20, 2023 and twenty-five (25) volunteers have been dispatched as the first batch to carry out activities in the social sector which is expected to provide high-quality education and activities aiming at Sri Lankan students, during their three months long assignment.
The ESG-KOICA youth mid-term volunteers are currently serving at the University of Kelaniya, Mahinda Rajapaksha College – Homagama and the Department of Probation and Child Care Services – Galle and they are successfully conducting activities focusing on global capacity building, global citizenship education and social emotional learning.
The Korea International Cooperation Centre (KIDC) together with the KOICA Sri Lanka Office conducted a field visit in-order to monitor and evaluate volunteers’ activities at the University of Kelaniya and the Mahinda Rajapaksa College – Homagama on Jan 23 and 24.
The Country Director of KOICA Sri Lanka office Kim Myung Jin, Deputy Country Director Kim Doyun and the Field Manager of Korea International Development Cooperation Centre (KIDC) Jang Hyeonji met with the volunteers and discussed about the progress of their activities including the programme directives. During the meeting JANG HYEONJI, Field Manager of KIDC who is in-charge of the Sri Lanka volunteer group thanked the representatives of the partner organizations, for their continuous cooperation towards the successful implementation of the programme and for assuring volunteers’ safety and security.
Kim Myung Jin, Country Director of KOICA Sri Lanka office said: “We expect that the ESG-KOICA youth mid-term volunteer programme will further enhance the exchanges between two countries through active communication and social activities with the Sri Lankan students, and further strengthen diplomatic and cultural relationship between Korea and Sri Lanka”
As a part of volunteers’ assignment, it is scheduled to hold Korean cultural events at the partner organizations during Feb 5,6,7 and 8 enabling students to experience and witness K-Pop, K-Drama, Traditional games, wearing Hanbok and many other recreational activities.
