SJB MP Eran Wickremaratne yesterday (22) raised the conduct of the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) who had issued contradictory reports on the death of wealthy company Director Dinesh Schaffter.

Referring to President Ranil Wickremesinghe attending Schaffter’s funeral, MP Wickremaratne said that the JMO had, in his first report, claimed the victim was strangled and then in his second report said the businessman had committed suicide. “This is absolutely ridiculous. This murder inquiry must be conducted impartially.”

The MP said that the Sri Lanka Medical Council Ethics Committee on Decisions of Professional Conduct inquired into the conduct of Dr. M.A. Rahul Haq, who issued contradictory reports.

The SLMC Ethic Committee decided that Dr. Rahul Haq should be suspended for eight months with effect from December 20, 2022. “This person, suspended by the SLMC has given the second report on the death of Dinesh Schaffter. How can a JMO, who is under interdiction, give a second report, contradicting his first report, on the death of businessmen Dinesh Schaffter?”
