Former MP and EPRLF leader Suresh Premachandran alleges that neither President Gotabaya Rajapaksa nor his government is interested in solving the national issue or at least addressing basic problems experienced by the Tamil community.

The former MP made the allegation when he met the media at his Jaffna residence in the wake of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s recent visit to Vavuniya. Premachandran alleged that during the much-publicised presidential visit, Rajapaksa only met the members of the Sinhalese community living in the district.

The EPRLF leader claimed that the President was still upset that the northern Tamils had not voted for him at the 2019 presidential poll. The former MP said that those who raised issues on behalf of the Tamil community had been ignored by the President during his Vavuniya visit.

The former militant said that the President was trying to build up Sinhala vote base in the North ahead of the Provincial Council polls.
