The Environment Ministry yesterday (14) gave the green light to the launch of a rapid compost machine that could produce compost manure, using discarded food, vegetables and kitchen waste.

Eco-Master, a local private company’ introduced the machine that can easily produce compost fertiliser in support of the programme implemented by the government to start using organic fertiliser.

Such a machine can be used to make compost, using daily household waste, discarded food and rotten vegetables.

The machine could produce 100 percent eco-friendly organic fertiliser, according to its managing director, D.M. Amarasiri.

The Environment Ministry says the machines are manufactured using a stainless steel to prevent corrosion. The composting machine is powered by electricity and can generate additional income from the use of food waste used in hotels and restaurants.

The launch of this new rapid compost machine took place yesterday at the Ministry of Environment.

Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and senior Ministry officials took part in the launch.
