Environment Minister and Ministry Sec. to attend COP27 in Egypt

Sri Lanka team headed by Environment Minister Nazeer Ahamed and Ministry Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe will attend the forthcoming 27th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The event is scheduled to be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt from 7 – 18 November 2022.

Plans are underway to showcase Sri Lanka’s commitment towards combating adverse impacts of climate change Including Sri Lanka’s roadmap to implement the commitments identified under the updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of Sri Lanka submitted last year.

The collaboration of other government and private partners to achieve Sri Lanka’s commitment in a short and long term were also discussed.

Environment Minister Nazeer Ahamed yesterday accepted the invitation from the Ambassador of Egypt in Colombo and has had a fruitful discussion at the Ambassador’s residence on Saturday.
