The city of Melbourne, in Australia, is certainly a happening place for Sri Lankans, residing in that part of the world.

They are never short of entertainment and it happens on a regular basis.

Several local artistes are in Melbourne, as well as in Sydney, at the moment, performing at various gigs.

In fact, we had Yohani, of ‘Manike Mage Hithe’ fame, doing her thing in Sydney, and Melbourne, just recently.

I’m now told that Buddhika Jayawardena, who is based in Melbourne, is working on a brand new concept, and he is calling it ‘Akshara’.

According to Buddhika, ‘Akshara’ will be a series of concerts, featuring Sri Lankan artistes, who will be singing Buddkika’s own songs, created for the artistes concerned. Doing the needful will be Kumarasiri Pathirana, Asanka Priyamantha Peiris, Chandrasena Hettiarachchi and Shirley Waijayantha.

The launch of the ‘Akshara’ concert series will take place, in Melbourne, on February 18th, 2023, at the Hunting Tower Performing Art Centre, and Buddhika says, he is planning to take the concert to 12 different countries, as he is keen to give Sri Lankans, overseas, a taste of his own creations.

Lyricist, music video, and creator, has always been Buddhika’s all-time passion.

Buddhika also mentioned that he has something special coming up for music lovers, in Sri Lanka, calling the project ‘Thaalagamya’ Concert Series.

“It will be an absolutely novel concept for the Sri Lankan audiences, as I am not a person who wishes to follow the existing trend, at any given moment. It will be gifted to the Sri Lankan audiences soon, and will be a concert which will combine several generations of Sri Lankan music, together”.

Moreover, during his vacation in Sri Lanka, in January, Buddhika also formed a music band that will operate as BRIO, with young and talented Sri Lankan musicians in the lineup, and they will be seen in action in the very near future, he said.

Buddhika’s involvement in the music industry, as a lyricist, music video, and creator, has always been his all-time passion.

He has established his own company, both in Australia and Sri Lanka, named MB Creative Productions, while, in Australia, he is actively involved in the field of Real Estate, as Managing Director of JBPLUS Property Management.

As a composer, he has created songs for many local artistes, including Nanda Malini.

Buddhika’s next project will be a music video that he will be producing, and it will be filmed in Hollywood, California.

“It is based on a song that I have written, dedicated to my beloved parents. Famous Sri Lankan singer Shashika Nisansala and veteran singer Latha Walpola’s grandson, Geethan Bandara, will be singing this song.”
