Employees in future can check EPF balances electronically
Companies that had more than 15 employees must make contributions to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) from 01 February onwards through an online system, Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.
The step was taken based on a proposal made by President Ranil Wickremesinghe and will allow employees to check their contributions through a SMS.
“This will better protect the rights of 2.8 million employees registered for EPF. Right now, checking whether your employer is paying your EPF takes a lot of time and the process is complicated for some. This new system makes everything so much easier,” he said.
16,000 employers are registered with the EPF, Siyambalapitiya said.
