Electricity tariffs reduced

The electricity tariffs would be reduced by 21.9% with effect from midnight yesterday (04), the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), Chairman Prof. Manjula Fernando told a press briefing held in Colombo.

He said that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had submitted its tariff revision proposal to the Commission on Feb 22, 2024.

Last month, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera had informed the

Parliament that the CEB expects to reduce the rates by at least the same rates and percentages increased in October 2023.

In October last year, the electricity tariffs were raised by 18% for domestic and religious places of worship, by 12% for industries and hotels and by 24% for government institutions.
