Election of Prez by Parliament: ballot papers destroyed

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday announced that the ballot papers used in the secret vote to elect President had been destroyed.

The vote was conducted on July 20, 2022.

The Speaker announced that the Ballots had been destroyed by the Secretary-General of Parliament with the approval of the Committee on Parliamentary Business held on 24.03.2023.

Ranil Wickremesinghe secured 134 votes to becoeme the President while his chief contender Dullas Alahapperuma polled 82.
