Efforts of AG, COPE in vain: No action against wrongdoers
By Shiran Ranasinghe
No action has been taken in respect of 200 reports issued by the Auditor General on state officials who have caused losses to the state, amounting to Rs. 40 billion.
Although past COPE Chairmen Sunil Handunnetti and Charitha Herath used those reports to raise public awareness, no action has been taken against the wrongdoers.
Audit officers were demoralised because of this lack of progress, an Auditor’s General Department official said. The National Audit Commission, established by the 19th Amendment was abolished by the 20th Amendment.
