Economic recovery possible if everything goes smoothly – President

Sri Lanka’s economy contracted by 11% in 2022 and could contract by 3.5 or 4.0 percent this year but from 2024, the economy will begin to regrow, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Saturday addressing a religious event in Anuradhapura.

However, if the economic and agricultural programme implemented by the government and the debt restructuring programme were disrupted in any way, no one could prevent the country from falling into a crisis similar to May and June last year, the President said.
