EC decides to hold LG polls at long last

The Elections Commission (EC) has decided to call for nominations, between 27 and 30 Dec., for the Local Government (LG) elections.The EC took this decision during a special meeting held on 08 Dec.

The tenure of local councils will expire in March 2023 and the EC now has the power to decide when to hold the poll.The last LG elections were held in 2018 and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) won a landslide victory.
