The CID has initiated an inquiry into a section of social media allegedly using a statement made in camera by Fathima Hadiya, the wife of Easter Sunday suicide attacker Zahran Hashim, at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (P CoI) to mislead the public.

Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana yesterday (13) told a hastily arranged press conference that the inquiry had been initiated following a complaint received by the CID.

DIG Rohana said that two special teams launched investigations. Attendance at the briefing was restricted due to limitations imposed as a result of covid health guidelines. Therefore, print media weren’t invited though both audio and video recordings were made available.

Well informed sources told The Island that the complaint referred to allegations that the Easter Sunday carnage was planned in the run up to the last presidential election by those who backed the SLPP campaign
